The name on a SOSUM box is JSBIO's. The name on SOSUM's Korean licence is not. Korea's medical device register lists no filing at all under JSBIO; the filing SOSUM is supplied under belongs to CHA Meditech, a filler maker that holds fifteen valid filings of its own. Reading a SOSUM carton correctly starts with knowing which of those two companies the register will recognise.
Who makes SOSUM filler, as the register records it
SOSUM is a hyaluronic acid (HA) dermal filler marketed by JSBIO. In Korea a filler is a medical device, not a drug, and the device register is organised by licence holder and licence number. It does not record brand names. So the useful question is not "is SOSUM in the register" but "whose filing is it sold under."
KSTATION's product record ties SOSUM to licence 제허 13-872, a check made against MFDS's device information service in June 2026 and re-read against the open register for this article.
| Licence number | 제허 13-872 호 |
|---|---|
| Licence holder | CHA Meditech (차메디텍) |
| Device category | 조직수복용생체재료, biomaterial for tissue repair |
| Granted | 16 May 2013 |
| Status | Valid on the date read |
| Separate manufacturing site on file | None recorded |
| Tracking-managed device | No |
| Record last changed | 24 October 2025 |
The prefix 제허 marks a domestically manufactured device granted by full licensing, the strictest of the three routes the device register uses (the routes are set out in our explainer on notified, certified and licensed devices). The record's manufacturing site field is empty, so it names no plant other than the holder's.
JSBIO and CHA Meditech: brand owner and licence holder
A search of the device register under JSBIO's Korean company name, in every common spelling of the corporate suffix, returns no filings. That is not a red flag. It is how contract manufacturing (OEM) works for Korean fillers: the brand owner designs the packaging and sells the product, and the company that holds the licence makes it. In June 2026 we found the same pattern for a dozen filler brands in our range, none of whose brand owners held a filler licence.
CHA Meditech is the other side of that arrangement. It holds 23 medical device filings, and 15 of them are valid tissue-repair filings, the category Korean HA fillers sit in. Its own filler brand is HyaFilia, which it has taken through approvals in Thailand and China. Filing 13-872 is the third oldest of its fifteen, after one from October 2010 and one from January 2013.
| Granted | Valid filings | Category spelling on file |
|---|---|---|
| 2010 to 2013 | 3, including 13-872 | 조직수복용생체재료 |
| 2015 to 2018 | 6 | 조직수복용생체재료 |
| 2020 to 2022 | 4 | Three as 조직수복용생체재료, one as 조직 수복용 생체 재료 |
| 2024 | 2 | 조직 수복용 재료 |
Two things follow for a buyer. First, the register cannot say which of those fifteen filings any particular brand uses, so a SOSUM document should carry the number 13-872 itself rather than leave it to be inferred from the company. Second, a SOSUM document that names JSBIO as the licence holder does not match the register, even though the brand is JSBIO's.
What is the difference between SOSUM S, M and H?
SOSUM is sold in three versions, S, M and H. The product page describes them by gel viscosity and particle size: S as low viscosity with fine particles, M as medium, H as high viscosity with large particles. All three are described with the same declared composition: cross-linked HA at 20 mg/mL with 0.3% lidocaine, in a 1.0 mL pre-filled syringe.
| Versions | S, M, H |
|---|---|
| Declared HA content | Cross-linked HA, 20 mg/mL |
| Lidocaine | 0.3% |
| Syringe | 1.0 mL, pre-filled |
| Gel type | Monophasic |
| Shelf life | 36 months |
| Storage | Room temperature, 1 to 30°C, not frozen |
The letters are not a strength ladder in the sense of a higher dose. The concentration is the same across all three. What changes, as the page states it, is how the gel is sized and how thick it is. Where SOSUM sits among other single-phase gels is covered in our comparison of monophasic and biphasic Korean HA fillers.
One line on the page needs care: it mentions both lidocaine and non-lidocaine versions, while the versions offered are S, M and H without a lidocaine split. Our lidocaine comparison lists SOSUM among the fillers where that question should be confirmed before ordering.
How to verify SOSUM filler before it ships
Look for the licence number, not just the brand. A Korean filler carton or insert carries its 품목허가번호. For SOSUM it should read 제허 13-872. A number from another CHA Meditech filing is not automatically wrong for every product, but it is not the filing our record ties SOSUM to, and it deserves a question.
Check the holder against the number. Entered into the MFDS device register, 13-872 returns CHA Meditech. If a supplier's paperwork pairs 13-872 with a different company, one of the two is wrong.
Do not expect JSBIO in the register. A seller who says SOSUM is "registered to JSBIO" is describing the brand, not the licence. That is a reason to ask for the carton, not a reason to assume a fake.
Match the version letter to the declared content. All three versions declare 20 mg/mL HA with 0.3% lidocaine in a 1.0 mL syringe. A SOSUM carton declaring a different concentration or fill volume does not match the product as described.
Re-check the filing over time. The record was last changed in October 2025, and the open register does not say what changed. How to re-run a filing check after purchase is set out in re-checking a Korean filing.
Sourcing SOSUM
KSTATION supplies SOSUM in S, M and H through Korean channels. Buyers comparing it with fillers whose brand owner and licence holder are the same company can look at REVOLAX, held by Across. Both sit with the rest of the range under derma fillers.
Frequently asked
Who makes SOSUM filler?
SOSUM is marketed by JSBIO. The Korean device licence it is supplied under, 제허 13-872, is held by CHA Meditech, which is the manufacturer of record.
Is SOSUM filler licensed in Korea?
Yes. Filing 제허 13-872 is a full licence in the tissue-repair biomaterial category, granted on 16 May 2013 and valid on the MFDS open register as read on 15 October 2026.
Why does a search for JSBIO in the Korean register return nothing?
Because JSBIO is the brand owner, not a licence holder. The Korean device register records filings under the company that holds the licence, here CHA Meditech, and it has no brand name field.
